Welcome to Brandeis, Class of 2013! What great weather we ended up having, and we at WBRS were very glad to have been able to welcome you to campus with some fun tunes and great hosts. If you want to be a part of the magic, find us at the Activities fair or any of our other events this week. We're wearing maroon, blue, or green WBRS shirts (from previous years). Come up to us and ask us about what we do! Email join@wbrs.org to get yourself on the mailing list (you can also sign up at our events).

Our Fall 2009 New Members Meeting will be held later today - Monday, August 31 at 9 pm in Shapiro Campus Center 313. This is on the elevator side of the building, on the opposite side from the WBRS studios. We hopw to see you all there! We have received word that the facilities department at Brandeis is doing some routine maintenance of the electrical systems and will be shutting off power to our transmitter and our studios from 6 am to 8 pm Saturday. We hope to be back on the air after this interruption, but without much staff available we cannot promise anything. We all agree this is a very unfortunate situation, and no way to run a radio station. In the event that we do not come back on by Sunday, you should please email Gideon, our General Manager (gm AT wbrs DOT org) to express your displeasure at not being able to listen to WBRS. We are trying to fight a battle to regain summer housing for 2010 to allow us to be better-staffed, and we may need testimonials from all of you to help us win it back. (We had had the housing for as long as anyone can remember until one arm of the Administration decided to end it this year.)

We're in the process of formulating our fall 2009 schedule. If you are not already on the WBRS listserv, where you can receive all of the announcements, you can sign up by going to http://lists.brandeis.edu/wws/info/wbrs and you should email our personnel director at personnel AT wbrs DOT org to introduce yourself. If you do not have a Brandeis email address but you're interested in becoming a community DJ, email the same address and we'll set you up on the listserv.

We're asking our DJs, our listeners, and their friends to help us get a programming project off the ground. We'd like you to take a survey about books ("books? I thought this was a radio station!") by clicking here. It takes 30 seconds, I promise.

WBRS has also created a twitter account. Since it's summer and we have a low coverage volume we haven't used it much, but we expect that to change once the school year starts. You can add us by going to our page. In fact, we encourage you to do so as yet another method of interacting with our staff. (This is in addition to our aim screenname, wbrsfm and our studio phone number (781-736-5BRS, or 781-736-5277.)
