The Unsung Heroes of College Radio...
WBRS is a non-commercial college radio station run by a
cooperative. As such, we're here for a variety of reasons -- to
serve the public as well as to provide a vehicle for college students
to learn about radio in specific as well as the music industry at
large. However, as with far too many good things in life, there is an
associated trade-off. We can't seek advertisers in the traditional
sense, so we're at a fiscal disadvantage versus our commercial
competition. One way we try to offset this is with sponsorship. Our
sponsors are mostly businesses and organizations in the area with an
interest in helping us to serve the public. Some give us cash, but
others provide us with product. For instance, Rosenfeld's Bagels in
Newton Centre, one of our longest-standing sponsors, provides us with
the bagels we serve every Friday afternoon at the Coffeehouse.
If you are part of an organization that might be interested in
sponsoring the station in general, or one of our shows in specific,
please give us a call.
Thanks largely to our sponsors, we're running off of a better
transmitter this year so more businesses and homes can tune us in. So,
if you play the radio at work, just keeping it tuned to WBRS is one
way to help us out (we'd prefer cash, but we're realistic).
And, the organizations that sponsor us not only get great exposure on
a college campus, increased name recognition by being mentioned on our
air-waves and in our publications, but also a warm-fuzzy feeling for
having done something nice.
