The Basics.
WBRS is the non-commercial student radio station licensed to Brandeis University in Waltham Massachusetts. We broadcast 24/7/365 serving Brandeis University, Waltham and the surrounding communities.
The History.
WBRS was granted a license to broadcast on 91.7 FM by the FCC in 1968. Nearly twenty years later, the station was forced to vacate that frequency due to to changes in FCC licensing and FM band congestion. On July 31, 1986 WBRS began broadcasting at 100.1 FM where it remains today. Our complete history is available on Wikipedia.
The Tech Stuff.
WBRS broadcasts with an ERP (effective radiated power) of 25 watts at an elevation of 46 meters HAAT (height above average terrain). Our facilities are located on the Brandeis campus with studios in the Shapiro Campus Center and transmitter on top of the Rabb Graduate Center. WBRS is licensed by the FCC as a Class D or secondary signal.
The Staff.
WBRS is staffed by students as well as volunteers from the community. There are no paid positions. The entire managing executive board (E-Board) is made up of student volunteers. Anyone interested in getting involved or becoming a DJ is encouraged to contact the personnel director.
The Programming.
The programming at WBRS is diverse. We have shows playing just about every genre of music as well as sports and talk. Our motto is “Something For Everyone” and we live up to that declaration. We encourage all artists, labels, and radio services to contribute material for airplay. See our contact page for details.
