Bill Simmons may come out of hiding now

With the news that Kobe Bryant wants out of Los Angeles, sports discussion will inevitably center around what it will take to get him out of there. Since this blog is based in Boston, here's a potential option for the Celtics:
Celtics get: Kobe Bryant, Jordan Farmar
Lakers get: Paul Pierce, Sebastian Telfair, Rajon Rondo, No.5 pick in 2007 draft
This way, the Lakers get a legit star in Pierce, a young playmaker, and a chance at whoever they want in the draft (Yi? Brewer?), the Celtics get Kobe and a project in Farmar, and Bill Simmons can come down off the ledge. We all win...sorta.

doc river would probably find a way to make a team with kobe even worse than they already are.
Don't Odom and Pierce play the same position?
That isn't the trade Simmons posted.
(If this was your own creation, my apologies.)
From Bill Simmons' ESPN Insider article:
Deal No. 5: Boston trades Theo Ratliff (expires in 2008), Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, the No. 5 pick and their rights to Minny's future No. 1 for Kobe.
I don't like that trade, I think Al is going to be an All-Star and we all know teams need big men to do really well. From LA's side, it's not a bad deal if you're going to rebuild. Big Al and Gerald are viewd as potential studs, especially Al, and there's the potential in an All-Star with the No. 5 pick.
Take a look at the my newest post regarding a ridiculous Kobe trade.
Any Kobe trade involving Paul Pierce is counterproductive. You'd trade for Kobe to give Pierce some veteran help.
A better option is something like Kobe for Jefferson, Rondo, and Theo Ratliff's expiring deal.
Mini Me here from london. that trade wouldn't go down, but it could happen if the celts had drafted brandon roy instead of trading their pick. replace roy with telfair and i think the lakers consider that move.
great job with the blog, fellas!
I guarantee Jefferson does not get dealt. It just won't happen.
Kobe for Pierce would benefit the Celtics in salary cap, and also Kobe's better. Thus it isn't counterproductive, since it doesn't make you worse.
Ah, Adam's stuck on this Brandon Roy thing.. YOU CAN'T DRAFT A PLAYER IF HE GOES BEFORE YOUR PICK!!!
Oh but Portland swapped picks with Minnesota... yeah but they didn't send an overpaid veteran with knee problems with him.
One more thing on Brandon Roy:
He had knee surgery on his left knee in late 2004 and was diagnosed with knee tendinitis in the same knee in April 2007. Looks like that's going to be a problem.
Also, Roy's numbers are similar to Delonte West's numbers when D.West was 22 (as Roy is now 22).
West (who averaged less mpg and fewer shot attempts per game)
.487 FG% .851 FT% 13.8 P/40 4.8 R/40 5.4 A/40 57.4 TS% 27.6 Ast 11.2 TO
15.8 Usg 7.3 Reb
15.11 PER
Roy
.456 FG% .838 FT% 18.9 P/40 5.0 R/40 4.6 A/40 54.8 TS% 18.9 Ast 9.5 TO
21.9 Usg 7.7 Reb
18.08 PER
Looks pretty close to me. One major difference is that Roy was a key part of the Portland Offense (usage rate), while West had a much smaller role, yet put up good numbers. Also factor in Roy's overall experience level.
And if you look at Rondo's numbers, many of his stats are better than Roy's also (APG, RPG, Ast,reb/40, A/40 to name a few). Oh, and Rondo is just 6ft 1in and is 21 years old.
