Let The Jermaine O'Neal Sweepstakes Begin!
Is it possible Jermaine O'Neal has played his last game in a Pacers' uniform? On Thursday, O'Neal claimed that if the franchise plans to rebuild, they can use him to acquire players.
O'Neal plans to meet with Larry Bird and Donnie Walsh sometime this week to discuss his future. Potential trading partners could include Minnesota, New York, Los Angeles and Denver.
The Pacers seem to have remained stagnant over the past few seasons. Sure moves were made but there is no significant direction or progress being made.
Out of the potential trades that could be discussed this summer, I think the most intriguing by far is a Lakers-Pacers trade involving Jermaine O'Neal for Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, and Maurice Evans. I get why the Lakers didn't pull the trigger on a Kidd for Bynum deal this season. Kidd is an aging veteran and teaming him up with Kobe wouldn't have brought the Lakers into serious title contention anyways, so why trade away a supposedly future stud in Bynum. However I do believe Jermaine O'Neal could be that reliable second scorer and the low post-scoring presence the team currently lacks, to get the Lakers much closer to the Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix echelon than where they currently sit.

Lamar Odom > Jermaine O'Neal
McHale said they will rebuilt in Minnesota...they need to make a splash and get O'Neal...
I hate how the NBA salary cap is structured because it makes it hard to trade...you are basically trading money - not players...
I kinda that would be an awful move for the Lakers... O'Neal isn't that much better than Odom, and Bynum certainly looks like he'll be a very good player sooner rather than later.
I agree twins.
warriors should pull another lopsided trade and give up adonal foyle and his huuuge contract for the rights to jermaine, jamaal tinsley (he still in IND?) and anyone else who beat the shit out of some fans.
