Drug Dealers Everywhere Shriek: Ricky Has Kicked His Habit

Not only did Ricky Williams file for reinstatement with the NFL yesterday, but he also admitted that he hasn't smoked marijuanna "in maybe three years". On the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio, Williams described his marijuana use not as recreational but as "self-medicating for stress." Williams elaborated on the subject explaining that, "stress levels got really high. The only thing that really helped was to go home, relax on the couch, roll up a joint and take a couple of puffs." Williams went on to claim that perhaps the most stressful aspect of being an NFL running back was the physical pain he experienced each and every day.

Whether or not you advocate the legalization of marijuanna, Williams' explanation for his use of the drug makes it seem like a legitimate remedy for the stresses a professional athlete experiences. Stresses, both physically and mentally, that the average sports fan simply cannot relate to.

Given that, I ask you, the sports fan, if you would be bothered if you found out that the best player on your favorite team smoked marijuanna once or twice a week?

I wouldn't care as long as he tried his hardest on the playing field.

I would think at the end of games they would lack stamina because their lungs were weaker from smoking. These athletes are professionals, paid to be in shape and play hard. Smoking would jeopardize that. I would be upset.

Why would I care? If they are my favorite professional sports player the merit is obviously given for a reason, so their personal habits really are of no significance. Plus, I understand why, it's a relaxing habit that causes no one else harm. Who are we to care or meddle in habits of those we admire. We admire them.

I don't want my favorite player doing weed during the season. Do whatever you want in the offseason. We pay you the big bucks to perform.

Yeah, it would bother me. These guys are supposed to be role models, regardless of whether or not they're accepting of it. It just sends a horrible message.

To rstiles:
Your stress may not be my stress, my stress might not be your stress.
Do you understand what I am saying?

To the sports scoop:
Who said those guys are suppose to be role models? You? What message are they sending? Do you understand what I am saying? I'm sure you do, because listening to you , you have all the answers.

Put me in the "don't care" camp. I think pot ought to be legalized, taxed, and regulated like tobacco.
