The Sammy Sosa HR Contest

If you take a look at Sammy Sosa's career numbers, you will see that he began his baseball career playing for the Texas Rangers. Well things have come full circle for Sosa, who appears to be on the verge of making a return to baseball via a minor league contract with those same Texas Rangers.

So let me welcome you to the Home Run contest, where you, the contestants, guess how many home runs you think Sosa will end up with. You could guess 0, if you think he won't even make the big league roster. Or you could guess 66, that's how many he hit in 1998, back in the day when steroids weren't technically against the rules. (wink, wink)

But in all honesty, how many home runs you think he will hit will depend on how many games you think he will play with the Rangers and how well he will play in those games.

So tell me, how many home runs will Sammy Sosa hit in this upcoming season?

0...when you can't make the Japanese league. There's very little chance you can make the AL.

Oh MC...you always see the glass half-empty. You have so little faith in Samuel. If Jason Giambi came back from steroids, why can't sluggin Sammy?

You sure Giambi isn't simple back on roids?

Sammy Sosa was never a great player. He had a couple great years(perhaps drug induced). I don't see him making it out of the minor leagues unless some injuries occur to the rangers (which could happen), but I also think if he shows he can still swing the bat they may bring him up for limited use. I am gonna give him 5-10 home runs.

I'm going with zero. I expect Sosa to hit about .150 his first few weeks of spring training and then to abruptly re-retire with a "back injury" aggravated by one of his swings.

To be quite honest, he may not make the team ... so say I a grand total of zero.

He'll not make out of ST.

Mark my word. You all need pitching and more pitching, not some aging slugger with an inflated ego.

Keep in mind, he's a guy who in 2006 refused to play for the Nationals because he wanted a guaranteed contract for $1 million rather than a minor league offer with incentives, although he was a shell of himself!

I'm going to say 1. I reakon they'll stick him out there just because he hit a load back in the day.

After a few games and 0-1 HR they'll drop him.

I'm going to say two, just because I think his name will get him some time in the majors. I'm not a big Sammy fan, but if he plays in the Rangers' minor league system he'll be playing for the Oklahoma City Redhawks, so maybe I'll get to see him play.
