Getting Traded For Dirk Nowitzki Can Do Anything To A Man : Tractor Traylor Pleads Guilty To Tax Fraud
I vividly remember the evening my Dallas Mavericks drafted Robert "Tractor" Traylor. It was the 1998 NBA Draft and with the 6th pick my Mavs drafted a man so beastly that many believed the 6'8, 280 pound giant could have matched up with Shaq...and held his ground. Or at the least, he was another man who could shatter a backboard with a ferocious two-hand slam.
I was excited to say the least. Then less than an hour later the Dallas Mavericks traded recently drafted Tractor Traylor, who I thought could have been the savior to the franchise, for some goofy looking German the Milwaukee Bucks selected three picks later. I think the crowd's reaction to the Dirk pick in the youtube video above says it all. Not only who is Dirk, but what is a Dirk?
They say there are two sides to every coin, and if Dirk is heads than Traylor is certainly tails. While Dirk, at the age of 27, is already a 6-time All NBAer, and a five time all-star, Traylor has been not only bad, but extremely awful.
And now things have gotten worse in Tractor Traylor's life, as he has plead guilty to tax fraud. But the story is far worse than just tax fraud...
"Traylor's name was used to make it appear that he purchased two Detroit rental properties, but the properties were actually bought and owned by Quasand Lewis, a convicted drug trafficker and money launderer, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy's office.
The 29-year-old Traylor admitted in his plea that the properties were listed in his name to conceal Lewis' ownership from police. Traylor also admitted claiming a false loss of more than $205,000 from the properties on his 2004 federal income tax return."
Taylor faces up to 14 months in prison and it is really unfortunate that Traylor had to resort to this type of behavior in order to make an extra buck or two. The man had so much supposed potential but he never amounted to much on the court. If he was really that desperate for money, maybe instead of involving himself in organized crime he should have just asked Dirk for a loan.

I remember watching Traylor in his prime (which was basically college) and marveling at how a huge man like him could be so mobile and graceful... my how, the mighty fall.
Hey Mini Me, you want in on the picks this week? The games are on my blog
I agree with Twins on this one. Its weird how some pretty good players just can't make the switch up from college to pro.
And thats across all sports of-course.
Hey Mark,
I posted my picks on your blog!
Thanks,
Mini Me
Hindsight is 20/20. Wow...
The NBA draft is a total crap shoot these days. Then again, most teams are not very judicious with their picks at all...
The mother f****r should have given me just a tenth of his $. I would have invested it for him, and we both would be paid now.
