"Break Out The Oreos, Baby!" - The Best 3 Minutes Ever
Watch the video, then read...
According to Wikipedia:
The Plano East Senior High School football team won an ESPY award in 1995 for showstopper of the year: High school football: Incredible comeback/letdown, Plano East vs. Tyler [1] [2].
On the evening of November 26, 1994, Plano East was trailing against John Tyler 41-17 with 3 minutes remaining in regulation. Plano East had possession of the ball at John Tyler's 20 yard line. With a quick touchdown pass from Jeff Whitley to Terrence Green, the drive began as the score closed to 41-23 (failed two point conversion). On the ensuing onside kickoff, a member of John Tyler's team picked up the ball and fumbled it, and Plano East was there to pick it up. With the ball on John Tyler's 44, Whitley hit another pass to Terrence Green, taking them up to the 26 yard line with 2:24 left. On the next play, a hard blitz caused an errant pass from Whitley, however the pass was still caught and taken to the 11 yard line. 3 plays later, on 4th and 5 at the 5 yard line, Whitley completes a touchdown pass to John Braddick. The conversion was good, which took the score to 41-31. On yet another onside kick, Plano East yet again recovered possession when a John Tyler player let the ball bounce off of him. With the ball on their own 45 and 1:24 left, a screen pass to Green took the ball to the John Tyler 12 yard line, where he took the ball out of bounds to stop the clock. On the next play, Whitley completed yet another touchdown pass to Braddick. The failed conversion left the score 41-37. Plano East recovered yet another onside kick following the attempted conversion, which left them at midfield. On 2nd and 10, facing a hard blitz from both sides, another screen pass to Green took the ball to the John Tyler 22 yard line. With 31 seconds remaining, Whitley threw yet another touchdown pass to take the lead 43-41. After a successful extra point, John Tyler was ready to receive the ball with 24 seconds remaining. In yet another shocking play, John Tyler's kickoff returner went 98 yards for a touchdown, which led to the final score of 48-43.
3 minute summary for Plano East: Jeff Whitley - 219 passing yards, 4 TD John Braddick - 23 yards, 2 TD Terrence Green - 91 receiving yards, 1 TD.
This might be one of the most amazing sequence of events ever in the history of sports. The amazing comeback was once in a lifetime and to lose it in such a devastating way is really unbelievable. I think the events that transpired are even more bizarre and unbelievable than the Boise State/Oklahoma game. No matter how many times I watch this video, I am left in awe.

Yeah, I just love this video, if only for the announcers.
"God Bless those kids... I'm sick, I wanna throw up."
Definitely one of the most exciting videos I've seen... the first time I saw my jaw just dropped.
Loved the video. I have to throw in my two cents, my favorite sports ending:
April 11, 1995, Dallas Mavericks vs. Houston Rockets.
At the start of the 4th quarter, Houston was up by 12. Dallas made a run and took an 8-point lead with just over a minute left. Then Houston scored 13 points in the last *30 seconds* of the fourth quarter (including a 3 by Sam Cassell with 1.9 left) to force overtime.
Next, Houston got a 13-point lead in overtime, but Dallas scored 14 points in the last minute of overtime (including three 3-pointers by rookie Jason Kidd, the last one with 2.5 left) to force double OT.
Dallas ran away with the second OT and won 157-147, scoring the last 10 points of the game.
Kidd had 38 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals in double overtime. Dallas and soon-to-repeat-as-champion Houston combined for an NBA record 28 3-pointers, and Kidd had 8 all by himself. The teams also set an NBA record by combining for 46 points in the first OT.
So that's 3 sizeable leads overcome (1 in less than a minute, 1 in less that 30 seconds), 2 buzzer-beating, game-typing 3-pointers, 2 nba records, a triple-double for the rookie Kidd, and a total score that wasn't topped, I believe, until the Kidd-Nash shootout this past fall.
Also pretty cool. Wish I could buy that one on tape.
Ho. Ly. CRAP!
After the second onside kick you would have thought the coach would tell his team to 'stay the hell away from the football you butterfingered idiots!' wouldn't you?
Great bit of action right there but for those announcers. They sounded like a bunch of 80 year old alcholic tramps...
Hey Scoots,
I remember that game as well. I am a big Mavs fan and I clearly remember Kidd's buzzer beater. That is one of the best games I have ever witnessed and I too have long desired to acquire a video of the game, some how, some way.
I'm always going to love those highlights. Always.
Also, as long as someone from Texas is losing something, I'm happy.
The best part isn't so much the comeback as the bizarre Texas-isms spewed by the announcers.
the best part about that video is the announcers. I remember I actually got shown that clip in a broadcasting class as to show what not to do when being an impartial broadcaster. but still, you gotta love it. "no, no, no ........"
just a ridiculous ending
I was on this Plano East team (injured at the time). The announcers for this game were just two Plano guys doing games for a local cable channel. All of the big news channels in town had packed up early because they thought the game was pretty much over. That left these guys as the only people with footage of the game. The clip was then shown on ESPN, CNN, etc. and the announcers even appeared on Jay Leno. And yes, we did get an ESPY award presented to the school for 'Greatest Comeback'. Winning the game would have been better!
whatever happened to terrance green, the quarterback whitly and the rest of the team?
