NASCAR is often stereotyped as a sporting event only followed by white-trash southerners who drive pickup trucks, own confederate flags, and carry shotguns around with them. While that certainly is not the case, the incident that occurred last evening certainly didn't do anything to dispel that stereotype...An off-duty police officer was shot several times during an attempted robbery at Kansas Speedway.

"Police said that a few hours after the race had ended three people tried to stage a robbery at a small secure building where vendors take the day's receipts. The building, known as the 'bank', is located near the main grandstands. The robbery occurred about 8 p.m. CT as speedway workers were preparing to close the facility."

Thankfully police have already arrested two of the suspects, but apparently NASCAR fans do sometimes bring guns to the racetrack.
