Sunday Morning News

Certainly everyone is familiar with Ozzie Guillen's profane remarks used towards reporter Jay Mariotti, but things have gotten even weirder, now that John Rocker has entered the equation. Not only has Rocker insisted that sensitivity training is a joke and he only actually went for 15 minutes, but he even supports Guillen's recent comments..."This is a free country. If he wants to use a lewd term, he should be able to use a lewd term. Can't you use a lewd term in America if you want?" With these comments Rocker confirms he's a moron, and this manifests why he doesn't have the mentality to be a Major League pitcher, but instead the former premiere closer must now resort to finding the limelight on teams such as the Long Island Ducks and shows such as "Pros vs. Joes"

The NBA Draft is closing in on us, as it is just a few days away. We will post a preview within the next few days, but in the meantime...Shawn Marion has become the center of trade rumors. To Chicago for Chandler and the second pick? To Seattle for Rashard Lewis? Paxon has vehemently denied these rumors, so let's scratch the Marion to Bulls proposal. The Seattle one is intriguing. It seems Phoenix is shopping Marion, as they need to free up some cap space so they can offer Diaw a long-term deal as well as trying to stay under the salary cap to avoid the luxury tax. To me, Lewis is a great fit for Phoenix. He seems to be a much better version of Tim Thomas, who Phoenix will lose to free agency this offseason. He is just as good a shooter but is also more athletic, a better rebounder, and a stronger defender. The deal also includes a swap of first round picks, giving Phoenix the 10th pick in the draft. They would need to find some sort of athletic swingman to replace Marion, and in particular his strong defense (the only good defender on the Suns). Rodney Carney could be a good fit at the 10 spot. Assuming Diaw can continue to progress, and if Amare can come back 100% healthy, this trade works for Phoenix. They solve their cap problems and stay just as competitive.

It's an interesting offer because I don't think Phoenix is going to keep Lewis. They're going to let him walk after next season to clear up the cap room to sign Diaw. They could also use the draft picks to draft replacements for Marion and Leandro Barbosa. Look for them to go with Carney at 10 and Shannon Brown at 21.

The one reason that I don't think the Suns should make this deal is that it's coming a year too early. The Suns could settle for being near the top of the league for 5 years, or they can go for a title while Steve Nash is still relatively young. Next year is the year for Phoenix, and I think it would be foolish to morgage Marion just to stay decent for the future. Would you rather have a championship team one year, or a 3 seed in the playoffs for 5 years? That's why I wouldn't do this if I'm Phoenix.

It is a really intriguing trade rumor. Normally you don't see such a high-profile player being mentioned like Marion is. I think Marion is still very underrated on the Suns and if he is traded perhaps some holes on the team might be exposed. But I think Rashard Lewis could really blossom in Phoenix, even if it is just for one season. Not only can he shoot as well as Thomas, but he is better in every other facet of the game (with the exception of blowing kisses). Also, because he is so much more athletic than Thomas, he could be very effective running in the Suns' transition offense. Also, with Carney being a 4 year college player, he is more likely to be able to step in and play right away. In the end, no matter whether they trade Marion or not, I think the Suns go as Amare goes. If Amare is 100% healthy they can win a title, if he isn't, I don't think they can beat both the Spurs/Mavs and Pistons/Heat in a postseason.

I agree with pradamaster...let the triplets (Amare, Marion, Nash) have their chance to win a title - they will have role players and a bench that is more deep and experienced than last year: Barbosa, Diaw, Tim Thomas, Bell, Kurt Thomas, maybe House - this is a team that is 8 or 9 deep next season

The team certainly has the potential to win a title, just take a look at these early odds for next season.
