Fantasy Baseball

With Fantasy Baseball drafts starting up all over the country, it's time to talk a little fantasy. Today WBRSports is doing their fantasy draft and so I'm curious how people feel about where they rank certain players?

Bonds? Clemens? Garciaparra? Jason Bay? Alfonso Soriano? King Felix?

Comment about who you think you got as steals in your draft, and who, in retrospect, you should've drafted earlier.

I think Clemens could be a big steal if he drops a ton...I also like Felix Hernandez. He is spectacular and he plays in a pitcher's park.

Some odd picks:

Lidge in Round 2 (isn't that too early for a closer?), Brandon Webb and Tracy from Arizona in Round 5, and Gagne and Freel at the end of round 7

And then Bonds went with the first pick of round 7 and Clemens went mid-9th round

Francouer and Hermeida, two guys who are young and promising went back-to-back in round 11

I'd like to know how Curt Schilling can get picked before John Smoltz and Josh Beckett. As hard as it is to believe, Schilling's got to be a bigger injury risk than Smoltz at this point. Not that I'm complaining, I got Beckett out of it.

And to defend my Chad Tracy pick: He was the best 1B left on the board, he's eligible at 1B and OF and he's going to be eligible at 3B, so it seemed like a solid pick.

I agree with you, Brian...smoltz and beckett (and a bunch of others) should have gone before Schilling...it's Red Sox bias and why people should try not to take players from their home team because they ALWAYS overvalue them

I think you can easily defend taking Schilling above Smoltz or Beckett. All three of these pitchers are considerable injury risks. However, Schilling is by far the most talented of the three and if all three are healthy you would have expect him to put up the best numbers. Remember, before his injury last year Schilling was an absolute fantasy monster. Although you can't be positive that he'll make a recovery to his pre-injury form, you can be sure that a competetor like Schilling will be working hard to do so and the potential season that he could put up if he's healthy makes taking him above Smoltz and Beckett worth it.

Nathan! I love that you are blogging now! Welcome to our cult, I mean community. I agree that Schilling is the most talented, however Schilling only pitched 93 innings last year, and they were pretty nasty too (5.69 era). Yes Beckett has been injury prone but he has mainly been hampered by blister problems. The past three seasons, he has pitched 142, 156, and most recently 178, which aren't bad quantities. Also, Beckett is younger than Schilling. I am jumping on the Beckett bandwagon and I expect him to have a phenomenal year this season.
